Wildlife Rehabilitation Internship
Join us at the Khan Rewilding Center for an immersive experience in wildlife rehabilitation. Our specialized program is designed for those aspiring to careers in wildlife rehab and veterinary medicine, offering a comprehensive range of activities at our fully equipped, purpose-built facility in the Amazon rainforest.
Program Highlights:
- Dedicated Rehabilitation: Work with expert teams on feeding, nutrition, husbandry, juvenile care, health management, medical intervention, enrichment, enclosure maintenance, and reintroduction. Participate in a broad range of activities, from daily care to post-reintroduction monitoring.
- Enrichment and Reintroduction: Engage in enrichment activities, enclosure construction, and reintroducing animals to the wild. Learn first-hand how to successfully manage animals in a rehabilitation program.
- Diverse Species: Gain experience with a variety of species, including ocelots, margays, oncillas, coatis, kinkajous, tayras, opossums, peccaries, yellow-footed tortoises, and red-tailed boas. The work is diverse and varies depending on the animals and their stage of rehabilitation.
- Ethical Wildlife Management: Contribute to a high success rate in animal rehabilitation and reintroduction, working closely with local and federal governments to rescue animals and combat wildlife trafficking.
Activities:
Interns will be involved in:
- Animal Care: Providing daily care, nutrition, and enrichment for a variety of species.
- Medical Intervention: Assisting in health assessments, treatments, and medical procedures.
- Reintroduction Efforts: Supporting the process of preparing animals for release and monitoring post-reintroduction.
- General Duties: Engaging in camp maintenance, supply management, cooking, cleaning, and other essential tasks. Participate in round-the-clock care for juvenile animals and routine surveys of physical and behavioral health.
Requirements
Given the specialized nature of our programs, we accept a limited number of applicants throughout the year and only offer opportunities to individuals who are pursuing a career in wildlife rehabilitation. The main requirements for applying to this program are:
- Either currently enrolled in a university program related to wildlife rehabilitation/ management, graduated, or with entry-level career experience in the field.
- Willing to stay for a minimum of 2 months.
- Principles of ethical wildlife management.
- Strong work-ethic and ability to work as part of a diverse team.
- Basic Spanish.
