REHABILITATION

INTERNSHIPS

Hands-On Experience, Genuine Impact

At the Khan Rewilding Center, you will have the chance to contribute to a dedicated wildlife reintroduction program incorporating novel methods of rehabilitation and management while working with a group of specialized and dedicated local experts at a fully equipped, purpose-built facility located deep in the Amazon rainforest.

We offer internships to people looking to pursue a career in both wildlife rehabilitation and veterinary medicine. Our internship program consists of a broad range of activities, including feeding, nutrition design, husbandry, juvenile care, enclosure maintenance, enclosure construction, enrichment, health management, medical intervention, reintroduction, and post-reintroduction monitoring.

Interns at our center will be paired with members of our rewilding teams based on their specific interests and as per necessity to assist them in all daily activities, getting the opportunity to learn first-hand how to successfully manage animals in a rehabilitation program. The nature of the work is diverse and varies depending on the animals we have as well as what stage of their rehabilitation they are in.

Intern activities consist primarily of assisting with different research projects at our center. Our projects are always evolving either due to conservation necessity, seasonality, or the different specialists currently on site, but in general our research initiatives have a strong focus on wildlife ecology both at an individual and populational level. Some of our permanent ongoing studies include monitoring populations of felids and their prey using camera traps, anuran population dynamics and reproductive ecology in the wet season, and baseline monitoring of mammals and herpetofauna throughout the year.

We also provide support for students seeking to undertake a research project related to veterinary science and/or wildlife rehabilitation. The research division of our center can collaborate to provide support for study design, data collection, management, and analysis as well as providing access to dedicated research facilities on the reserve.
