Alex de la Cruz Huaman has been Hoja Nueva's driver and one of our main project facilitators in the community of Puerto Lucerna for almost 8 years. Alex's family is one of the founding families of Puerto Lucerna, which is the largest community on the Las Piedras River. He changed his profession from a cacao agriculturalist to our full-time driver due to his passion for assisting in conservation efforts as well as his uncanny ability to navigate the jungle roads. Alex receives animals from local and national governmental agencies to bring them into the care of Hoja Nueva safely and securely. Also, when you come to visit Hoja Nueva, he will be at the airport waiting for you!
