Brayan Richard Romero Gastelu

Animal Care Technician

Brief info

Brayan, from the local river community of Puerto Lucerna, is a full-time animal care technician at Hoja Nueva's rescue center. Originally from VRAEM (Valle de los ríos Apurímac, Ene y Mantaro), Brayan and his family moved to Puerto Lucerna in 2021. Since joining Hoja Nueva, Brayan has become an integral part of the rescue team, responsible for the daily care of rescued animals and helping to maintain their enclosures. His dedication to animal welfare, coupled with his enthusiasm for wildlife, ensures that every animal in his care receives the highest level of attention. Brayan’s work goes beyond basic care—he plays a crucial role in preparing enrichment activities for the animals, particularly the wild species undergoing rehabilitation. His experience exploring the Madre de Dios region has given him unique insights into the local fauna, which he applies in his day-to-day responsibilities at the center. In addition to his work at Hoja Nueva, Brayan is also pursuing a degree at the ICIFEM Institute of Financial and Business Sciences, balancing his studies with his passion for conservation. When he's not working or studying, Brayan can be found playing soccer or helping his family on their cacao farm, always staying connected to the community and the environment he loves.
