Kelly Mariela Mucha
Wildlife Rehabilitation Specialist
Brief info
Kelly, from the local river community of Puerto Lucerna, plays an essential role in the daily care of the wild animals at Hoja Nueva. Originally from the district of Samugari in Ayacucho, Kelly moved to Madre de Dios in 2023, where she was immediately captivated by the region’s rich biodiversity. With a passion for wildlife and conservation, Kelly focuses on caring for animals in the sanctuary, particularly those that cannot be released back into the wild. She is also involved in the rewilding efforts, helping prepare peccaries and tortoises for their eventual release. In addition to her hands-on work with the animals, Kelly brings an unwavering dedication to maintaining the sanctuary's cleanliness and functionality. Her attention to detail and commitment to animal welfare are vital to ensuring that every animal under her care receives the best possible treatment. When she’s not at the sanctuary, Kelly enjoys spending time with her two beloved dogs, Nena and Scott, and helping her family on their farm. Her love for animals and deep connection to the local environment make her a key member of the Hoja Nueva team.
