Timo Kohler

Board Member - Cell Biologist

Brief info

Timo is one of Hoja Nueva’s board members and scientific advisors who consults on general research direction and connects the sterile academic research bench with the muddy rainforest. Timo holds a B.Sc. in biochemistry from the Free University of Berlin, an M.Phil in biochemistry, and a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. He is currently a postdoc at Cambridge where he specializes in embryonic stem cell and developmental biology. During his Ph.D., Timo also supervised several graduate students and oversaw the establishment of a new cell biology laboratory. In his spare time, he works as an avid amateur photographer whose photos have won at NATURE’s “Scientists at work” photography competition. Timo connects his passion for conservation biology and stem cell biology by supporting Hoja Nueva’s rainforest laboratory and by bringing more science to the jungle.
