Clara Sanchez
Resident Researcher
Brief info
Clara is a Spanish biologist with a passion for science and wildlife, which led her to Mexico to pursue a masters in Marine Resources Management. There, she focused her research on the trophic ecology of sharks in the gulf of California. Her determination to continue learning about threatened wildlife brought her from the ocean to the jungle, where she is currently a mammal researcher and intern coordinator at Hoja Nueva. Clara's main focus is the use of camera trapping to study the ecology of tapirs, but she is also involved in multiple projects such as the population dynamics of rodents, opossums and felids. Since she discovered how amazing the world of camera trapping is, she can’t wait to continue her research to help with the conservation of one of the most biodiverse and magical places on earth. When Clara isn't collecting cameras from the remote corners of our protected reserve, you'll catch her "identifying individual tapirs" or lost in an alternate universe.
