Karen Silvina Llamocca Huaman
Domestic Animal Rescue & Care Coordinator
Brief info
Karen Silvina Llamocca Huaman helps lead Hoja Nueva’s domestic dog and cat rescue operations in Puerto Maldonado alongside her husband, José. She provides day-to-day care for rescued dogs and cats, including animals arriving abandoned, injured, malnourished, sick, or too young to survive independently.
Karen has particular experience caring for neonatal and juvenile animals that require intensive feeding, monitoring, hygiene, socialization, and medical follow-up. She oversees daily husbandry and helps animals progress toward recovery and eventual adoption or responsible rehoming.
Her work is also an important component of Hoja Nueva’s One Health strategy. Free-roaming and unvaccinated dogs and cats can affect both human communities and wildlife through disease transmission, predation, competition, abandonment, and conflict. By improving domestic-animal welfare and helping reduce unmanaged populations, Karen’s work contributes indirectly but meaningfully to wildlife conservation.
She also supports the larger vision for Hoja Nueva’s expanding purpose-built dog and cat rescue facility in Puerto Maldonado, which will allow the organization to respond to more cases and strengthen community veterinary and sterilization efforts.
