Ronald

Wildlife Rehabilitation Specialist

Brief info

Ronald is a Wildlife Rehabilitation Specialist at Hoja Nueva’s Khan ReWilding Center and one of the four core staff members responsible for the center’s day-to-day animal care and rehabilitation. Working alongside Jared, Joaquín, and Kelly, he carries out daily husbandry, feeding, cleaning, behavioral observation, and rehabilitation work across a wide range of Amazonian species.

Ronald has developed a particular interest and strength in environmental enrichment: designing and adapting challenges that encourage animals to forage, explore, manipulate their surroundings, solve problems, and express the natural behaviors they will need outside captivity. He works extensively with both collared and white-lipped peccaries, coatis, kinkajous, crab-eating raccoons, and small wild cats.

His work is especially important as animals progress from routine care toward greater behavioral independence. Enrichment at Hoja Nueva is not simply entertainment; it is part of rehabilitation, and Ronald helps adapt it to the ecology, history, abilities, and stage of each animal. He also supports behavioral monitoring and preparation of animals moving toward eventual release.
